Jorhat Gymkhana Golf Club

Jorhat Gymkhana Golf Club was established in 1876 by D. Slimmon. D Slimmon was the secretary of the club in 1876. Jorhat Gymkhana Golf Club situated in Jorhat, Assam has a social club. The club activities include tennis, billiards, bridge, race weeks, flower shows.

Jorhat is known for it’s sprawling tea gardens. Jorhat is located about 314 km north-east of Guwahati.

It hosted the Tea Tourism Festival in 2002 which was very impressive.

Jorhat Gymkhana Golf Club has a 9-hole golf courses. The course is well maintained, and can be challenge for both beginners and skilled golfers.

The club’s ground that spans an area of 180 bighas and is very well maintained.

Jorhat as lore goes began as a place of recreation for bored British tea-planters.

The Jorhat Gymkhana Club is said to have the world’s third oldest golf course. Jorhat Gymkhana ClubIt has a huge 18-hole golf course.

A pony race known as the Jorhat race is held here annualy. Check it out!

Also some little known facts on Jorhat :

The first plane ever in the North-East landed in its grounds in 1928.

Golf secretary of the club, Hardip Matharu says:

“The first aeroplane ever to land in the Northeast did so at the Gymkhana grounds in 1928, when Bernard Leete, the owner-pilot of the plane, came to Jorhat at the request of A.C. Tunstel, then director of the Tocklai experimental station. Tunstel wanted to take his ailing wife to Calcutta for treatment. It was also at the club grounds that the first jeep was displayed after being brought to Assam in 1945″

On the club grounds you will find the first jeep in Assam being displayed.

It was founded in the year 1930. It has 6,309 yards from Championship tee.

The club has an indoor games area, a restaurant and swimming facilities.

The golf club is nestled in between the Deihing forest reserve on three sides. It is close to the National Highway-38. The mountains of Arunachal Pradesh are worth  a sight.

If you are wild life enthusiast, here is something for you - You will find a wide variety  of flora and fauna including wild elephants, leopards, wild boar, barking deer, an assortment of snakes including the venomous king cobra and the hornbill and the parakeet.

Dibrugarh District & Planters Club

After the Maden Memorial Gymkhana Club was swallowed by the Brahmapura, the DDPC Golf Course and  Dibrugarh District Planters’ Club were born. This was somewhere in the year 1955. The land was of Bokel Tea Estate.

History of the DDPC Golf Course course

Initially the course was 5800 yards in length. It was a 9 hole golf course. The rating was 67.3 with Par 67.

In the year 1998 the 18th Hole was converted to a Par 4. The course length increased to 5910 in length. It was 68 Par keeping the rating same at 67.3.

The course of DDPC is flat and temptingly beautiful.
